Part Time Deputy Coroner:


The Cherokee County Coroner’s Office is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the position of Deputy Coroner.  The Deputy works under the direction of the Coroner and duties include but not limited to securing crime scenes, collecting evidence and testifying in court.  Professionalism, attention to detail and ability to prioritize under stressful situations is a must.  Hours worked are dependent upon need which can include nights, weekends and holidays.  Ten hours budgeted per week.    

Qualifications:

  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Good computer skills (Word and Excel)
  • Good communication skills
  • Prefer experience in death investigations, law enforcement or forensic science
  • Must have valid SC Driver’s License
  • Must successfully pass a drug screen and background check
This position is a grade 11 with a minimum beginning annual salary of $6,130.80.

Part-Time 911 Telecommunication Operators:

 

General duties include but are not limited to performing a variety of routine clerical, administrative and technical work in receiving and dispatching routine and emergency information for law enforcement, fire and emergency agencies.  Twelve hour shifts and schedule includes an eight day break every three weeks for the full time positions.

Qualifications:

  • Prefer  a SC Criminal Justice Academy certificate or able to obtain within (6) months of hire
  • Prefer NCIC and EMD Certification
  • Must successfully complete SLED criminal history background check and pre-employment drug screen
  • Must be able to type a minimum of 25 words per minute
  • Be available to work holidays, weekends and nights
  • High School Diploma or GED

Solid Waste Collections Drivers


Cherokee County is seeking qualified candidates to fill open positions for Solid Waste Collection Drivers.  Drivers are responsible for completing daily routes with two collectors to pick up household garbage door to door throughout the County, City of Gaffney and Town of Blacksburg.  Must monitor the safety of the crew, perform daily pre and post trip inspections, and report any and all truck maintenance issues.

  • Must have valid CDL Class B license
  • Must be able to learn and follow daily routes
  • Prefer experience with heavy trucks
  • Must successfully complete a drug screen

This position is a pay grade 11 with a minimum annual salary of $24,515.00 - $32,868

Automobile Mechanic I:

 

Cherokee County is seeking a qualified mechanic for the Vehicle Maintenance Department.  Duties include but not limited to the repair of automobiles, trucks and heavy equipment with an emphasis on diesel equipment, brakes and welding. 

 

  • Knowledge of gas and diesel engines/transmissions, hydraulics, pump and valves, generators and welding
  • 1-3 years’ experience
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective preventative maintenance
  • Must have own tools
  • Diploma or GED equivalent preferred but not required
  • Must successfully complete a drug screen

 

It is pay grade 10 with a minimum annual salary of $22,286.00 - $29,715

Vehicle Maintenance Manager

 

Cherokee County is seeking qualified applicants for a Vehicle Maintenance Manager.  The Manager is responsible for the repair of all county vehicles, supervising department staff, and establishing and maintaining an effective preventive maintenance program.  Procure parts for repairs, update files and track inventory with accuracy.   Prioritize and assign jobs as they occur and complete them with cost effectiveness and safety in mind.

 

Qualifications:

 Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet software

  • Prefer supervisor experience
  • Associate’s Degree or equivalent experience
  • Ability to successfully complete a drug screen
  • Valid driver’s license (prefer CDL)

Property Lister:

 

The Cherokee County Tax Assessor’s Office is seeking a qualified candidate to fill a Property Lister position.  Responsibilities include but are not limited to inspecting new building permits, inspecting reviews, measuring and evaluating all improved and unimproved property and maintaining records and files. 

 

Qualifications:

 

  • Prefer Real Estate or Tax Assessor’s Office experience
  • Must have computer skills including Microsoft Office
  • Prefer customer service experience
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Must successfully pass a drug screen and background check

 

This position is a pay grade 12 with an annual salary range of $26,966 - $35,955.

Human Resources Generalist

Building Inspector:


Cherokee County is seeking qualified applicants for a Building Inspector.  Duties include but not limited to performing inspections of commercial and residential construction to ensure compliance with adopted codes and code of ordinances.  Also, assists with plan review.

 

Qualification:

 Must have knowledge of international and national construction codes

  • Preferred ICC Residential or Commercial Combination Inspector certification or have the ability to gain certification within two years
  • High school diploma or GED equivalent
  • Three years of experience as a building contractor or building inspector or combination of education and experience which provides the skills, knowledge and experience required
  • Computer skills including using standard and customized software applications
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be able to successfully complete a drug screen and criminal background check
