Cherokee County HVAC/Building Maintenance Technician

Assists the Maintenance Supervisor in keeping Cherokee County facilities and grounds in a clean and orderly condition using a working knowledge of plumbing, carpentry, HVAC, and electrical.  Knowledge of materials and tools is needed to complete assigned projects.

  • Prefer HVAC certification or 2 years related experience
  • Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Required to climb, stoop, kneel, crouch and crawl
  • High School Diploma or GED
  • Must have a valid driver’s license
  • Must be able to successfully complete a drug screen and an extensive background check

Vehicle Maintenance Technician III

The Cherokee County Vehicle Maintenance Department is seeking an experienced truck and heavy-duty equipment mechanic.  Duties include, but not limited to, electrical, mechanical and computer controlled diagnostic repairs on our fleet of medium/heavy duty trucks.  Construction and agricultural equipment included.

  • Knowledge of Cummin’s Insite and Deisel Laptop diagnostic software to perform on vehicle diagnostics
  • Perform preventative maintenance on equipment, mount, and dismount tires
  • Ability to perform electrical diagnostics and repairs
  • Must have 5 years of experience in heavy-duty mechanics
  • Must provide hand tools and toolbox
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and obtain a CDL license
  • Must successfully complete a drug screen

Property Lister

The Cherokee County Tax Assessor’s Office is seeking a qualified candidate to fill a Property Lister position.  Responsibilities include but are not limited to conducting field review of properties, measuring new construction, collecting property characteristics, inspecting new building permits, inspecting reviews, evaluating all improved and unimproved property, and maintaining records and files to record the information into a computer-assisted mass appraisal (CAMA) system for ad-valorem taxation.

Qualifications:

  • Prefer Real Estate or Tax Assessor’s Office experience.
  • Must earn Apprentice Appraiser License issued by the South Carolina Real Estate Appraisal Board within 2 years.
  • Must have computer skills including Microsoft Office.
  • Prefer customer service experience.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license.
  • Must successfully pass a drug screen and background check.
  • Must be able to work outside in all weather conditions.

Solid Waste Clerk

Cherokee County is seeking a clerk for the Solid Waste Department.  The duties will include, but not limited to, answering phones and emails, filing, creating requisitions, general clerical duties, and dealing with the public with problems and concerns. 

  • Must have H.S. Diploma or GED
  • Must have a minimum of two years clerical experience
  • Must have two years’ experience managing public complaints and requests
  • Must be able to successfully pass a drug screen

Solid Waste Collections Drivers

Cherokee County is seeking qualified candidates to fill open positions for Solid Waste Collection Drivers. Drivers are responsible for completing daily routes with two collectors to pick up household garbage door to door throughout the County, City of Gaffney and Town of Blacksburg. Must monitor the safety of the crew, perform daily pre and post trip inspections, and report any and all truck maintenance issues.

Qualifications:

  • Must have valid CDL Class B license
  • Must be able to learn and follow daily routes
  • Prefer experience with heavy trucks
  • Must successfully complete a drug screen

The beginning hourly rate is $21.00.

Part Time Deputy Coroner

The Cherokee County Coroner’s Office is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the position of Deputy Coroner. The Deputy works under the direction of the Coroner and duties include but not limited to securing crime scenes, collecting evidence and testifying in court. Professionalism, attention to detail and ability to prioritize under stressful situations is a must. Hours worked are dependent upon need which can include nights, weekends and holidays. Ten hours budgeted per week.

Qualifications:

  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Good computer skills (Word and Excel)
  • Good communication skills
  • Must live in Cherokee County
  • Prefer experience in death investigations, law enforcement or forensic science
  • Must have valid SC Driver’s License
  • Must successfully pass a drug screen and background check

This position is a grade 11 with a minimum beginning annual salary of $6,130.80.
