In 2022, a feasibility study was conducted to determine what exactly recreation-wise could be feasibly, financially, and logically supported in Cherokee County. This study began to lay the roadmap for our county to determine the direction for recreation and tourism.
The next step in this process to ensure the valuable feasibility study information does not ‘sit on a shelf’ is to use that information to make a plan to implement the types of recreation Cherokee County residents asked for and what is shown to be feasible.
We are beginning this process with the already established recreation footprint just a few minutes away from the I85 corridor, the Midway Complex and adjacent property to the complex. As it currently stands, this property has sat undeveloped for decades. Private donors and industries have asked to put money into Cherokee County recreation opportunities to improve the quality of life in our county, but we could not provide them with the most logical area on the property to place facilities.
In a monumental step to advance quality of life in our county, County Council unanimously approved creating a ‘Master Plan’ for the property.
