911 Director

Under broad direction of Administration, determines the priorities, goals, and objectives of Cherokee County E911, manages all E911 Communications personnel, and manages all functions and equipment of the Communications Department. Responsible for the overall management and administration of the county’s E911 Public Safety Answering Point (PSAP), Dispatch Center, and Technical Services Division. Reviews and initiates standard operating procedures for Communications. Evaluates resource needs and responsible for the preparation and management of the departmental budget.

Job Requirements

  • Associate’s Degree in business and/or public safety field and a minimum of 7 years in a public safety communications center, including at least 3 years in a supervisory or management capacity.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Word and Excel
  • Must be able to operate a motor vehicle and in possession of a valid driver’s license.
  • Must be able to successfully pass a drug screen.

Human Resources Generalist

This position is responsible for a wide variety of Human Resources functions including, onboarding; tracking pay, benefits, and leave; overseeing processes for medical leave and accommodations, and other related duties as assigned. Must have the ability to interact well with employees, supervisors and members of the general public.   Works under the general direction of the HR Director.   

  • Associates degree in human resources, public administration, business/office administration, or a closely related field.

Equipment Operator - Roads and Bridges Department

Under general supervision of the Roads and Bridges Lead, operates a variety of heavy and light equipment to perform construction and maintenance of the County roads and bridges, such as mowing, asphalt patching and repair, grading and placing gravel on roadways, stormwater maintenance, pipe construction, etc. Performs manual labor with hand tools as required. The regular working hours are Monday – Friday, 7:30 AM to 4:30 PM

  • requires the possession of a Commercial Driver’s License or the ability to obtain a Commercial Driver’s License within 6 months of hire
  • Must also be able to successfully pass a drug screen
  • Previous experience operating equipment within the civil construction sector is a preferred qualification

Telecommunications Operator

The Cherokee County 911 Communications Department is searching for a Telecommunications Operator.  Duties include answering and processing 911 emergency, and non-emergency calls. Dispatch law enforcement, fire and EMS response units when appropriate.  This position works 12.25 hour shifts on a set schedule, either days or nights.

  • Must have good customer service skills
  • Ability to multi-task
  • Must have good computer skills
  • Prefer one year of 911 Telecommunication experience or ability to successfully complete the Training Academy within 6 months of hire
  • Must have a high school diploma or GED
  • Must have a valid Driver’s License

Recycling CDL Driver

Recycling CDL Driver

This is a full-time position responsible for assisting the Recycling Department in the efficient

and environmentally-friendly disposal of waste and the repurposing of recyclable materials.

Duties include but are not limited to: driving a roll-off truck to collect recycling material,

loading and offloading recycling material, and separating material in its appropriate location.

  • Ability to operate a forklift, skid steer, roll-off truck
  • Must have a Class A or B CDL
  • Ability to lift 50lb or more regularly
  • Must be able to successfully pass a drug screen
  • Must be in possession of a valid driver’s license

Part Time Deputy Coroner

The Cherokee County Coroner’s Office is seeking a qualified candidate to fill the position of Deputy Coroner. The Deputy works under the direction of the Coroner and duties include but not limited to securing crime scenes, collecting evidence and testifying in court. Professionalism, attention to detail and ability to prioritize under stressful situations is a must. Hours worked are dependent upon need which can include nights, weekends and holidays. Ten hours budgeted per week.

Qualifications:

  • Must be 21 years of age
  • Must have a High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Good computer skills (Word and Excel)
  • Good communication skills
  • Must live in Cherokee County
  • Prefer experience in death investigations, law enforcement or forensic science
  • Must have valid SC Driver’s License
  • Must successfully pass a drug screen and background check

This position is a grade 11 with a minimum beginning annual salary of $6,130.80.
