The mission of the Cherokee County Probate Court is to provide professional and compassionate assistance to the public through an unbiased and responsive justice system.
The Probate Court has jurisdiction over the administration of decedents' estates, the issuance of marriage licenses, the appointment of guardians and conservators, and involuntary commitments. The Probate Judge is elected countywide and serves a four-year term.
A majority of the matters administered in Probate Court are done so informally. However, some complicated and/or contested matters are considered formal actions. As the Probate Court must remain unbiased, the Probate Judge and Clerks cannot assist you with formal actions. The Probate Court strongly recommends that you hire an attorney to assist you with formal actions.
