Driveway Access Information

Anytime that you plan to encroach on a county, state, or city right-of-way, especially with a permanent structure, you must go through a process to ensure what you plan to place in the right-of-way is appropriate, can be properly maintained, and is safe for use.

If you are planning to need drive access to a county, state, or city-owned road due to building a structure or placing/moving a mobile home onto a parcel of land, the drive access permitting is the first step in the building process.

The first thing you will do is find out which agency owns the road you’d like to tie into.

If it is owned by SCDOT, you must process this application through the SCDOT Cherokee County Maintenance Department. (864)489-2844
If it is owned by City of Gaffney, you must process this application through City of Gaffney Public Works Department (864)487-8510
If it is owned by Cherokee County, you are in the right place, and you may follow the steps outlined here.
