In 2026, Cherokee County is actively applying for the BUILD Grant that is administered by the USDOT. We plan to submit two grant applications. The first application is for the construction of two new bridges on Brick House Road, paving the county owned portion of Brick House Road, and upgrading the stormwater drainage systems along the county owned portion of Brick House Road. The second application is a planning grant to fund the preparation of bridge replacement plans on all bridges and creek crossings that need bridges owned by Cherokee County.
The application preparation process is extensive, and there is no guarantee of funding awards; however, infrastructure upgrades are crucial for Cherokee County.
The total maintenance budget for road and bridge infrastructure in Cherokee County would not replace the bridges on Brick House Road. This speaks to the need for funding to ensure updated infrastructure within our county. Identifying grant funding is crucial to continue maintaining our road systems.
