Beginning July 1st, 2026, Cherokee County is launching a Residential Solid Waste Modernization Program to preserve countywide residential curbside collection of household garbage. This is being done through the initiation of a dedicated funding source to ensure the long-term sustainability of the County’s solid waste system. Beginning in 2026, Cherokee County residents will see a $222.00 annual fee for Solid Waste Collection and Disposal on property tax bills. This fee does not only cover curbside collection provided by Cherokee County, as it covers recycled goods disposal, construction and demolition landfill operations, limb and brush disposal, and post-closure landfill operations for the entire county as well.

Over the coming months, Cherokee County Solid Waste Collections will endure a transition that will ultimately refine the program to allow for continuance of curbside collection for our residents. Please see our new Solid Waste Collections Policy here.

We understand that this transition and implementation of the fee to continue serving our residents will come with several questions.

Cherokee County has prepared a comprehensive list of questions that residents may have regarding the changes HERE.

The Cherokee County Solid Waste Collection and Disposal Fee becomes its own sustainable budget outside of regular county operating expenses. To learn more about this budget and the financial summary adopted, click here.

As this transition progresses, this page will be continually updated to keep our residents informed.

The largest shift will be that Cherokee County is moving the collection schedule back to Monday – Friday versus Monday – Thursday. This change will occur by August the 1st. As we work through this transition, some residents will have a new collection day. To ensure continuance of service during this transition, please place your carts at the roadway per the new Solid Waste Collections Policy Monday-Friday. Once Cherokee County has a new route software system in place by the Fall, residents will receive mailers providing them their set collection date moving forward.

Any holiday pickup schedule changes will be announced on the Cherokee County Facebook page.
