Cherokee County Animal Control, the Cherokee County Animal Shelter and the Humane Society of Cherokee County are three distinct organizations but work hand-in-hand.

Animal Control

Animal Control is a division of the Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office. Animal Control enforces the county’s tethering ordinance and will investigate and pick up nuisance animals.

Call 864-487-8529, ext 3 to report a nuisance animal.

You can also request a trap from Animal Control at no cost. You are responsible for returning the trap to Animal Control. If a stray is caught, please contact Animal Control and they will come collect the animal. If you lose a trap, the fees are $225 for a large trap, $125 for a small trap and $65 for a cat trap.

Animal Shelter

The Cherokee County Animal Shelter accepts strays, surrendered and lost and found animals and tries to return them to their owners.

To submit a lost or found pet, email a photo and description of the pet, along with where he or she was lost or found, to [email protected].

If you see your lost pet on our Facebook page, please email [email protected] and include the Animal’s ID number and your contact information. You may also call the shelter at 864-487-0161.
