The Cherokee County Department of Building Safety serves to enhance the county’s quality of life, environment, and growth by providing residents with comprehensive planning, efficient code enforcement, courteous technical assistance, and public forums.

The department will work to ensure sound construction of new buildings, promote steady maintenance of existing buildings, and enforce regulations and development practices in accordance with national and international building codes and local land development regulations.

1.Inspections

Building inspections called in before 9 a.m. will be given priority and are usually completed the same day as the request.

To request an inspection, please call 864-487-2561.

Please have your permit number ready when you call for a building inspection.

 

Cherokee County has adopted the following codes:

  • 2021 South Carolina editions of the ICC Residential, Building, Mechanical, Plumbing, Fire and Fuel Gas Code
  • 2020 edition of the National Electrical Code with SC modifications
  • 2009 International Energy Conservation Code
  • 2021 International Property Maintenance Code, Swimming Pool and Spa Code, and Existing Building Code
